Belarus and Tajikistan

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan were established on September 5, 1996. The Embassy of Tajikistan was opened in Minsk in 1997, and the Embassy of Belarus in Dushanbe in 2011.

A regulatory framework for bilateral cooperation has been established and is developing dynamically. Its most important documents include the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan of April 5, 2000, and the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan of June 27, 2019.

Belarus and Tajikistan maintain an active political dialogue and constructively interact on international platforms, including within the CSTO.

Official visits by the President of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Tajikistan took place in 2000, 2011, 2018, and 2022. The President of the Republic of Tajikistan visited the Republic of Belarus in 2001, 2014, and 2019. Heads of state also regularly meet within the CIS and CSTO, for example, in November 2023 in Minsk and October 2025 in Dushanbe.

The Intergovernmental Belarusian-Tajik Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, established in 1999, plays a leading role in developing bilateral economic and investment cooperation. Its 19th meeting was held in July 2026 in Brest.

The fifth meeting of the Belarusian-Tajik Business Council was held in 2023, and the first meeting of the Working Group on Investment Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan was held in 2024.

Interaction between Belarus and Tajikistan is expanding in cultural and humanitarian spheres, education, science, sports, and tourism. A significant contribution to the development of this area is made by the Forum of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the two countries, as well as such formats as Culture Days and Cinema Days, held annually in Belarus and Tajikistan.
