Belarus and Tajikistan

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan were established on September 5, 1996. The Embassy of Tajikistan was opened in Minsk in 1997, the Embassy of Belarus in Dushanbe in 2011.

Belarus and Tajikistan support an active political dialogue and interact constructively at international venues.

On May 14 – 16, 2018 President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. During the visit, the parties confirmed the mutual desire for further constructive development of relations between the two countries, discussed promising spheres of bilateral cooperation, including trade and economy.

On September 27 – 29, 2018 in the framework of the Meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

On June 27 – July 1, 2019 President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon paid an official visit to the Republic of Belarus. The Treaty on Strategic Cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan was signed during the visit. The President of Tadjikistan visited as well the closing ceremony of
II European Games 2019.

In 2018 the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, the State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus paid working visits to the Republic of Tajikistan as well.

The Treaty on strategic partnership between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tajikistan came into force on June 18, 2020.

In 2020, the trade turnover of Belarus and Tajikistan amounted to 111.7 million dollars, including the Belarusian export – 109.6 million dollars.

The basis of Belarusian export to Tajikistan is mainly represented by passenger vehicles, sugar, tractors and truck tractors, flour, tires, insulated wires, stationery, chipboard and fiberboard.

Cotton fiber, dried fruits and cotton yarn are mainly imported from Tajikistan to Belarus. 

Currently the parties are exploring such promising areas of cooperation as expanding of the interaction in the food-manufacturing industry and the development of industrial cooperative ties.

On April 18, 2019, the 13th session of the Belarus-Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Minsk.

In October, 2019 the Business Forum "Tajikistan – Belarus – Afghanistan" with the participation of the representatives of chambers of commerce and business communities from the three countries was held in Dushanbe.

In 2018, the Days of Culture of the Republic of Belarus were held in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Cooperation in the field of education is actively developing.
