About the Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus is a republican body of governance reporting to the Government of the Republic of Belarus.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus pursues a public policy in the sphere of international relations and coordinates our country’s international political and economic activity in line with the Charter (in Russian) on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, enacted by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.

The Foreign Ministry is composed of a central office, Diplomatic and Consular Missions abroad, as well as Republican Unitary Enterprise “National Export Promotion Centre”.

The Foreign Ministry is responsible for the sphere of international relations. Its mission is to promote political and economic interests of the Republic of Belarus on the international arena; ensure the exercise of rights of Belarusian citizens and organizations abroad; collect information and study the conditions and tendencies in international development; draft regulations on the foreign-policy and foreign-economic course of the Republic of Belarus, etc.

The Foreign Ministry also coordinates cooperation between local and foreign governmental bodies, international organizations and intergovernmental institutions; organizes and participates in the visits of state and government delegations of the Republic of Belarus abroad; negotiates with representatives of foreign countries, international organizations and intergovernmental institutions; contributes to organizing international forums both in Belarus and abroad, etc.

Belarus maintains diplomatic relations with 183 countries of the world and is represented on the international arena by foreign missions in 58 countries or in more than 90, if including non-resident Ambassadors.

Foreign countries are represented in Belarus by 53 embassies, 2 embassy offices, 2 trade missions, 7 consular offices and 34 honorary consuls; international organizations – by 14 representative offices. More than 70 foreign diplomatic missions are accredited from the capitals of neighboring countries of Belarus.

The Republic of Belarus is a party to more than 4 thousand international treaties including 2880 bilateral and 1.450 multilateral.
