Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus S.Aleinik participates in the Non-Aligned Movement Summit

On  January 19, 2024 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, delivered a national statement at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. The head of the Belarusian delegation gave a general assessment of the situation in the world, which is characterised by polarisation and discrimination on a political basis. It was noted that the Non-Aligned Movement should be at the centre of international efforts to strengthen the trend towards a multipolar world order. Among NAM's priorities at this stage is the need to find compromises, engage in dialogue and build bridges with other states.

As part of the bilateral agenda, Sergei Aleinik met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry. The parties discussed topical issues of Belarusian-Egyptian interaction with a focus on trade, economic and politics. The parties discussed in detail the prospects for the development of assembly production of Belarusian machinery in the Egyptian market, the timing of the first meeting of the bilateral High-Level Commission chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, ways to further improve the legal framework, and cooperation in various international organisations, including BRICS.

Increasing the number of direct flights between the countries is also on the agenda with Egypt. Citizens and businessmen of both countries are seriously interested in this. It was agreed that all the details will be discussed by the aviation authorities of Belarus and Egypt, and further decisions will be made on the basis of their opinions.

The talks with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia, Mohamad bin Haji Alamin, focused on possible ways to intensify bilateral trade and economic cooperation and interaction in other areas.

Bilateral trade turnover growth over the past year and the potential for its increase were noted.

S.Aleinik thanked the Malaysian side for the certification of Belarusian dairy products and suggested to work together to issue halal certificates to Belarusian producers.

The parties also touched upon regional issues and interaction with the EAEU and ASEAN. The side agreed on further contacts and events in the current year.

On the margins of the Summit Sergei Aleinik also held brief meetings with the President of Uganda,Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Vice-President of Cuba, Salvador Antonio Valdes Mesa, President of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, AbdulMalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.
