Statement of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus regarding the US introduction of restrictions towards the Republic of Belarus
The Belarusian side considers the U.S. Government’s decision to introduce restrictions in respect of the Republic of Belarus to be an unwarranted and unjustified move. The decision brings back tension and distrust to the bilateral relations.
Washington’s decision openly violates the U.S. commitments to refrain from the policy of economic coercion against Belarus outlined in the Budapest Memorandum of 1994.
Pressure and coercion are absolutely futile.
We reserve the right to take proportional reciprocal steps.
The Belarusian side reiterates its genuine interest in maintaining constructive relations with the U.S. that serve the interests of both Belarus and the U.S.
