10 December 2025

On December 9, 2025, the tenth anniversary meeting of the Advisory Council on Belarusians Abroad under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus opened in Minsk. Leaders of Belarusian diaspora organizations from 15 countries arrived in Minsk to participate in the event.

At the opening session, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov delivered a welcoming speech. He thanked the organizations of Belarusians abroad for both the information and outreach activities they conducted in their countries of residence in 2025. Minister explained the importance of such activities given that in a number of countries, information about events taking place in Belarus is presented in the media in a distorted form, and also expressed support for joint events promoting Belarusian culture, language, traditions, and family values abroad.

The Foreign Minister briefly described the growing tension along the western borders of Belarus and informed about the efforts of the country's leadership to resolve the conflict situation with the EU countries.

The Minister expressed special gratitude for the active participation of organizations of the Belarusian diaspora in the celebrations, both in Belarus and abroad, of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, especially taking into account the attitude towards the memory of the Second World War in the European countries.

M.Ryzhenkov noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of the difficult conditions in which this work is carried out in many countries, and promised further support to organizations of the Belarusian diaspora.

Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekreta briefed diaspora representatives on the latest developments and achievements of the Belarusian foreign policy and held an interactive dialogue on several practical issues related to their life abroad, in particular on the specifics of the Belarusian passport and visa policy.

The leaders of the Belarusian diaspora organizations have made numerous constructive proposals to strengthen the coordination of their activities in different countries to enhance their political and informational impact.
