Delegation of Belarus participates in the joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Council of Defence Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils in Astana

On November 28, 2024 Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan) hosted a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Ministers of Defense and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The event was attended by the delegation of the Republic of Belarus, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxim Ryzhenkov, the State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Wolfovich, and the Minister of Defence, Viktor Khrenin.
The meeting featured a frank exchange of views on a wide range of regional and global security issues, as well as on the current military and political situation in the CSTO area of responsibility.
Speaking on behalf of the Belarusian delegation, M.Ryzhenkov expressed concern about the unprecedented growth of tension in the region and the world in general, aggravation of armed conflicts and militarization of international relations. The Belarusian Foreign Minister expressed concern about the intensification of activities of NATO member states on the western borders of the CSTO and the build-up of the Alliance's offensive potential in close proximity to the borders of Belarus.
The Belarusian Foreign Minister urged to intensify efforts to de-escalate tensions and deepen substantive dialogue on building an architecture of equal and indivisible security in the Eurasian space within the framework of the formation of a new multipolar world order. In this context, Foreign Minister recalled the II Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, held on October 31-November 1, 2024, during which interested discussions on this issue took place.
M.Ryzhenkov emphasized the significant role of the CSTO both in strengthening security and stability in the Eurasian space and in ensuring the security of its member states. Emphasized the importance of joint solidarity work within the CSTO in order to effectively confront modern challenges and threats to security.
The joint meeting adopted statements by the Foreign Ministers of the CSTO member States on the situation in Afghanistan and in connection with the twentieth anniversary of the CSTO's observer status in the United Nations General Assembly, as well as a number of documents on strengthening the CSTO's military component.
The Foreign Ministers, Defence Ministers and Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO member States also approved a number of documents on topical issues related to the development and improvement of the Organization in the political, military and technical spheres, which were submitted to the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council for consideration.
