Seventh Meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council on International Law

On July 14, 2023, the seventh meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council on International Law under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus was held under the chairmanship of Yuri Ambrazevich, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

The meeting was attended by members of the Council, representatives of government authorities, and international law professors from numerous Belarusian universities representing the academic thought and higher education of the whole country.

During the event, topical issues of the work of the Council were considered in accordance with the Action Plan of the Scientific Advisory Council for 2022 – 2024. The positive results of the work of the Council were highlighted, in particular, the model curriculum for bachelors specializing in International Law elaborated and approved by the Belarusian State University, as well as he republican case-championship on international issues organized by the Faculty of International Relations of the BSU, a number of winners of which are already undergoing training at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Representatives of General Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefed the participants of the meeting on the existing practice in the Republic of Belarus of concluding and executing treaties, monitoring of implementation of international legal obligations, as well as on possible directions for optimizing the work of state bodies in this area.

A special attention was paid to the activities of the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly and the International Law Commission as the main law-making structures of the United Nations in the field of public international law.

The experts of the MFA also reported on the current activities of UNCITRAL on private international and commercial law.

During the general discussion on improving educational and research work, the participants of the meeting discussed in detail the issues of organizing national competitions and other events dedicated to international law for young scientists and students.
