Bilateral Meetings of Minister S.Aleinik in the Framework of Participation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Summit

On June 10, 2024 within the framework of the participation of the delegation of the Republic of Belarus in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod (Russian Federation), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Aleinik, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. 

The colleagues stated the friendly nature of Belarusian-Cuban relations and stressed the unacceptability of illegal sanctions and pressure measures. Sergei Aleinik spoke in favour of Cuba and reiterated the need to remove the country from the U.S. discriminatory list of state sponsors of terrorism. 

The Ministers discussed cooperation projects in the fields of agro-industrial complex, machine-building, pharmaceuticals and welcomed the 11th Meeting of the Belarusian-Cuban Joint Commission on trade and economic cooperation to be held in Minsk on 10-12 June 2024. 

Special attention was paid to the situation in Latin America and interaction in international organisations. 

Bilateral projects, the schedule of prospective contacts, BRICS issues and the international situation were discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. 

The meeting with Acting Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, was devoted to assessing the implementation of bilateral agreements and identifying priority joint measures to expand economic, humanitarian and other areas of cooperation.  

The positive dynamics of mutual trade turnover was stated.  

The Iranian side expressed strong support for Belarus' joining BRICS and the SCO. The two countries reaffirmed their unchanged course towards the development of cooperation. 

On the margins of the BRICS Ministerial Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik also had brief meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, Naledi Pandor.
