President of Belarus Signs Decree on Interim Enforcement of Intergovernmental Belarusian-Polish Agreement on Restoration of Augustow Canal

President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed into action Decree on Interim Enforcement of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Polish Agreement on the Restoration of Augustow Canal until this document enters into force.

The Agreement was signed on June 8, 2005 in the town of Augustow and is to be ratified before October 2005. Its interim enforcement meets fully the interests of both parties.

Practical implementation of the Agreement will make it possible to restore the locks “Kuzhinets” and “Volkushek” and the adjacent border parts of the Augustow Canal waterway, and to create an appropriate infrastructure in the Belarusian portion of the Canal. It will help facilitate the development of tourism in our country and attract additional financial resources to the central and local budgets.
