Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus S.Aleinik participates in the CIS Ministerial Council meeting

On April 12, 2024 a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Minsk.

The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on pressing international issues and deepening cooperation within the CIS. The current situation in the Commonwealth space and along the perimeter of the borders was discussed.

At the suggestion of the Belarusian Foreign Minister, the participants of the meeting observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the inhuman terrorist act in Moscow Region.

In his speech, S.Aleinik stressed the need to strengthen multilateral cooperation between the CIS member-states. The Minister noted the particular importance of constructive dialogue within the CIS in the current deep crisis of international relations and the destruction of the global and regional security architecture.

S.Aleinik urged his colleagues to focus on cooperation in the spheres of security and economy in order to ensure sustainable development and well-being of the CIS peoples.

The meeting resulted in the signing of a number of documents aimed at deepening cooperation in the CIS space in the foreign policy and cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The meeting resulted in the adoption of joint statements on ensuring safe conditions for the professional activities of journalists and preventing infringement of their rights, as well as in connection with the 30th anniversary of granting the CIS observer status at the UN General Assembly.

The Ministerial Council meeting approved the regulations on the basic organisations of the CIS member-states in the fields of research into the problems of ensuring military security, university sports and training for the judiciary.

The next meeting of the CIS Ministerial Council will be held on 7 October 2024 in Moscow.
