Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei takes part in the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus

On November 3, 2022 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a solemn event of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO, dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the National Library of Belarus.

Background Information: The 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Library of Belarus is included in the UNESCO List of anniversaries for 2022.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry of Culture and the National Library.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chair of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO, Vladimir Makei, addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech.

In his statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs appraised the activities of the National Library in the field of humanitarian international cooperation.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the uniqueness of the National Library of Belarus, noted that it is the repository of knowledge, cultural and historical heritage of the Belarusian people, and drew attention to the symbolism of holding anniversary events of the library in the Year of Historical Memory.

V.Makei awarded diplomas of the National Commission for UNESCO to the employees of the National Library for their significant contribution to the preservation of the Belarusian cultural and documentary heritage.

The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Anatoliy Markevich, and the Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Victor Pshibytko, also addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech.

The event was attended by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, members of the National Commission for UNESCO, representatives of the creative intelligentsia.

The participants of the event had the opportunity to get acquainted with the exhibition "National Library of Belarus: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow", which consists of archival photographs and art works of the famous Belarusian photographers.

The event was performed by the teachers’ team of the Belarusian State Academy of Music.
