Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus S.Aleinik pays an official visit to Pakistan

On May 30-31, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The Foreign Minister was received by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif. The sides confirmed a friendly nature of the Belarusian-Pakistani relations, mutual interest in its further strengthening and development.

The parties discussed the whole range of Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation, including the implementation of the agreements reached following the meetings of the Belarusian Head of State with Shehbaz Sharif on the margins of the CICA Meeting in Astana in September 2022 and the SCO Meeting in October 2022 in Samarkand. Special attention was paid to the preparation and economic dimention of the upcoming visits at various levels.

In the light of the current global challenges, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation within the framework of international regional organizations. In this context, S.Aleinik thanked the Pakistani side for supporting Belarus in the process of joining the sco as a full-fledged member state.

During the meeting with the Minister of Economy of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, topical issues of expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation were discussed.

The sides considered the implementation of the Protocol of the 6th meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Pakistani Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which was held in Minsk in January 2023, and confirmed mutual interest in intensifying contacts between representatives of business circles and the leadership of the regions of the two countries.

In order to give a positive impetus to the interaction between Belarus and Pakistan in trade, implementation of joint projects in industry, agriculture, pharmaceutics, logistics, science and education, an agreement has been reached to intensify work on the Roadmap for increasing the bilateral trade turnover till 2025.

During the talks with the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, General Syed Asim Munir, issues of cooperation between the Ministries of Defense of the two countries, as well as military and technical cooperation were discussed. The interlocutors exchanged views on the security situation in a global and regional dimension.

During the visit, the Minister held meetings with representatives of large Pakistani businesses, during which prospects for the implementation of a number of projects of mutual interest were discussed.
