On Sitting of CIS Defense Ministers

Belarusian Minister of Defense Colonel-General Leonid Maltsev will take part in the first sitting of the CIS Defense Ministers Council (DMC), the Belarusian Defense Ministry informed.

Head of the DMC secretariat Colonel Alexander Nekrasov informed, the corrected agenda of the sitting lists 20 issues connected with further military integration development within the Commonwealth.

The parties will mainly discuss strengthening military co-operation within the CIS.

“The sitting headed by the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov will air military co-operation problems, peacemaking, and preparing military personnel in the CIS”, noted the Colonel.

The ministers will also sum up results of CIS military trainings in 2003 and approve the 2004 training plan.

The participants will hear reports of chief of the CIS Military Co-operation Staff Army General Vladimir Yakovlev, commander of the Air Forces and Air Defense Colonel-General Vladimir Mikhailov, and head of the chief military personnel department, deputy Russian Defense Minister Colonel-General Nikolai Pankov.
