Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus E.Shestakov visits Cuba

On May 18-21, 2025 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Evgeny Shestakov, paid a visit to the Republic of Cuba.

The 12th meeting of the Belarusian-Cuban Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Havana. 

The Belarusian delegation was headed by E.Shestakov, while the Cuban delegation was headed by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, Carlos Luis Mendez.

The parties discussed in detail a wide range of issues on the trade and economic agenda, analyzed the current state and prospects of cooperation in various areas, identified additional “points of growth” in a number of spheres.

In particular, a number of joint steps were outlined to implement bilateral projects in sectors of strategic importance for Cuba, including food security, development of construction, transport infrastructure, energy and mining, modernization of Cuban industrial enterprises, as well as increasing the availability of locally produced medicines.

As part of the work of the joint commission, the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba organized a business forum where interested Belarusian and Cuban enterprises were able to hold direct negotiations. The two sides signed a number of relevant bilateral documents. 

As a result of the agreements reached, the next shipments of Belarusian dry dairy products to the Republic of Cuba, further development of the project on the assembly of tractors, trailed and attached equipment, as well as the launch of joint production of Belarusian medicines in Cuba are expected in the near future.

During the visit to the Republic of Cuba, E.Shestakov held bilateral meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Eduardo Martinez Diaz, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Oscar Perez-Oliva, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

In addition, on May 20, 2025 the next round of Belarusian-Cuban inter-ministerial consultations took place on the level of deputy foreign ministers. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, headed the Cuban side. 

During the meetings and negotiations, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres, as well as the progress in implementing the agreements reached during the 11th meeting of the Belarusian-Cuban Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the visit of Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus to Cuba.

The sides discussed topical issues of interaction between the foreign ministries of the two countries. The parties reaffirmed their readiness to intensify the interparliamentary dialogue and further strengthen the traditionally friendly Belarusian-Cuban relations within the framework of international organizations.

The parties noted the significant potential for increasing mutual trade. Interest was expressed in the implementation of joint industrial cooperation projects.
