Commemorative event at the Khatyn memorial complex

22 March 2025

On March 22, 2025 a delegation of the Foreign Ministry headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, visited the Khatyn memorial complex to pay tribute to the memory of the innocent victims of those tragic events on the Belarusian land.

Belarusian diplomats, together with representatives of other republican bodies, public associations, organisations and concerned citizens, took part in the ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Eternal Flame, observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims.

As Minister M.Ryzhenkov emphasised, the need to preserve historical memory and correct interpretation of history is becoming more important every year. "It is especially important to pass on this knowledge, which we still remember from the stories of living witnesses of that time – our grandmothers, grandfathers, – to our youth, to our children. So that they can feel this Belarusian gene, the gene of resilience and survivance in any conditions and pass it on to other generations."

The Minister noted that memorial complexes such as Khatyn are living testimony and a reminder to those who invades the Belarusian land that the same fate awaits them: "Monuments will remind future generations of your heinousness and dark deeds."

The annual ceremony opened a series of events in preparation for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Belarusian diplomats, representatives of the diaspora and friends of Belarus around the world recall the Belarusian villages that were destroyed along with their inhabitants. We remember. We honour.  We сare. The corresponding video message is published in MFA's social networks.
