Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus M.Ryzhenkov visits Russia

On June 9-10, 2025 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, paid an official visit to the Russian Federation. 

The visit included a number of events aimed at further strengthening the allied relations between Belarus and Russia, as well as at developing comprehensive cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats. 

The central event was the talks between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia Maxim Ryzhenkov and Sergey Lavrov in a narrow and extended format. The parties discussed a wide range of issues, including the current state and prospects of Belarusian-Russian interaction within the framework of the Union State, the EAEU, the CSTO, and other integration associations. 

During the meeting, the Ministers discussed in detail the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the high and highest levels, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as interaction between the foreign ministries on a wide range of topics. The sides exchanged views on key issues on the international agenda, paying special attention to the problems of regional and global security, strengthening coordination in international organizations. 

Emphasis was placed on the situation in Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet space as a whole, as well as on the development of joint approaches to countering illegal sanctions pressure. 

There was a frank exchange of views on the situation around Ukraine and the dynamics of a peaceful settlement. The prospects for the work of the European structures - the OSCE and the Council of Europe - were also discussed. The sides noted their ineffectiveness in confronting modern security challenges and conflict resolution, noting the tendency to serve the interests of a narrow group of countries to the detriment of the statutory objectives, which leads to further erosion of trust on the continent. 

The Ministers reaffirmed the strategic and allied nature of the Belarusian-Russian relations, emphasized the high level of trust and intensity of the political dialogue, and noted the common positions on the main issues on the global and regional agenda.

Special attention was paid to the preservation of historical memory. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Ministers noted the importance of joint efforts to counter attempts to falsify history, glorify Nazism and distort the contribution of the peoples of the Soviet Union to the liberation of Europe. 

Following the visit, the foreign ministers signed a common address to the foreign ministers of Eurasian states with a proposal to accede to the joint statement «Towards a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century». 

During stay in Moscow, the Belarusian delegation headed by M.Ryzhenkov laid a wreath and flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as at the memorial signs «Hero City Minsk» and «Brest Fortress – Hero», paying tribute to the heroism of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War. This ceremony became a symbol of the continuity of historical values, common memory and deep respect of Belarus and Russia for the feat of those who fought for freedom and independence, as well as a reminder of the importance of unity in the face of modern challenges.

At the end of the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus delivered a lecture at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, where he presented the Belarusian vision of contemporary international processes, emphasized the importance of allied ties between Minsk and Moscow, and answered students' questions. 

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation once again confirmed the high dynamics of bilateral interaction, as well as the common focus of the two states on deepening the allied partnership and strengthening stability and security in the Eurasian space.
