Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan A.Metelitsa visits Karachi

On June 21-23, 2021, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Andrei Metelitsa visited the main financial and trade center of Pakistan – Karachi (Sindh province).

The meeting between the Ambassador of Belarus and Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir was devoted to Belarusian-Pakistan cooperation in the financial sector. The interlocutors discussed issues of interaction with the National Bank of Belarus, as well as export financial tools for the supply of Belarusian goods to Pakistan.

A.Metelitsa also visited the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (PSQCA) where he discussed with its Director General Abdul Aleem Memon the carrying out of the Action Plan on implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Standardization and Information Support, signed this year, as well as issues for intensification of bilateral interaction on the issues of compliance of Belarusian enterprises with Pakistani standards and Halal regulations. The Sides agreed to hold bilateral online event on the topic of requirements and standards for import of animal products to Pakistan.

In order to strengthen ties in the field of information, Ambassador of Belarus held a meeting with editor-in-chief of one of the leading newspapers of Pakistan DAWN Zaffar Abbas. The interlocutors discussed information exchange and direct cooperation with BelTA and other Belarusian news agencies.

During the visit, the Head of the Belarusian Mission met with the President of Ecommerce Gateway of Pakistan and discussed the preparation of the National Exposition of Belarus within the framework of the International Trade and Industrial Fair IEMA that will be held in Karachi in November 2021.

In the context of intensifying inter-regional cooperation between two countries, Ambassador A.Metelitsa met with Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, during which the latter received an invitation to pay a visit to the Gomel region – a partner region of Sindh.

The Head of the Belarusian Mission also held a series of meetings aimed at strengthening economic cooperation of Belarus with the Pakistani province. The main topic of discussion with the leadership of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Pakistan Council on Foreign Relations, local companies was cooperation in the spheres of industry, agriculture, education, as well as enhancing Belarusian products supply to Pakistan.
