Foreign Minister of Belarus S.Aleinik visits Kenya

On April 1-3, 2023 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, paid an official visit to the Republic of Kenya. 

The Belarusian Foreign Minister was received by the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto. The sides discussed an entire range of bilateral relations and identified joint steps to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. 

During the talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kenya, Alfred Mutua, the sides discussed in detail topical issues of cooperation in the political, trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The parties stressed the friendly nature of the Belarusian-Kenyan relations, as well as their interest in strengthening them and expanding areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The sides agreed on the implementation of specific steps aimed at developing cooperation in the field of agriculture and industry, energy and the green economy, education, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

In this context, the Ministers decided to create a mechanism for regular political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries. The relevant Memorandum was signed following the meeting.

The Foreign Ministers of Belarus and Kenya stressed the need to maintain a regular dialogue in a wide range of areas. The sides noted the coincidence of stances on key issues on the international agenda, confirming a mutual willingness to continue further support on multilateral platforms. 

The practical aspects of the further formation of the legal and institutional framework for cooperation were considered and the readiness to agree and sign agreements on trade and economic cooperation, on cooperation in the field of education, on the avoidance of double taxation, on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports was confirmed.

During the visit, S.Aleinik also met with the Minister of Trade, Investments and Industry, Moses Kuria, representatives of Kenyan business circles. The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the mechanization of agriculture, strengthening the industrial potential of Kenya, expanding mutual trade and industrial cooperation.
