Statement by the MFA of Belarus in connection with the non-invitation of Belarusian diplomats to participate in the commemorative events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora

04 April 2025

We strongly condemn the management's of the German Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation decision to refuse the participation of Belarusian diplomats in the commemorative events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of these concentration camps. This decision is in essence a continuation of the policy of dividing people on the basis of nationality.

Nothing can justify such cynical actions of the German foundation against the country where every third person died during the war, where there is not a single family that was not affected by the war.

Such actions of the foundation regrettably correspond to the policy of certain political forces in the West to change history and justify German Nazism.

What right does the management of the foundation have to prohibit representatives of Belarus and Russia to pay tribute to the memory of their compatriots who were tortured to death and suffered?

The actions of the foundation are extremely painfully perceived by the Belarusian society, especially in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

We don't need neither invitations nor permission to honour the memory of millions of innocently killed prisoners of German concentration camps. We have done it before and always will.
