United Nations Population Fund

Belarus has participated in the activities of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) since 1994. Since April 2019, the Deputy Permanent Representative, Olga Atroshchanka, is acting as the UNFPA Country Director for Belarus.

In its activities, the UNFPA is guided by the strategic plan for 2022-2025. UNFPA contributes to the development of demographic policy of Belarus, ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care of women, adolescents and young people.

Belarus has been a member of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS (governing body) three times. Key governmental counterparts (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Belstat, etc.) cooperate with UNFPA on a programmatic basis.

They implement the third UNFPA country program for Belarus for 2021-2025 with a total budget of 5.52 million US dollars. The program aims to achieve sustainable development goals in such areas as population and development, advancement of women, and reproductive health.

Cooperation with UNFPA plays a special role in the context of the implementation of projects on population aging, as well as support of disabled people.

In 2019, UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem paid an official visit to Belarus.
