Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas visits Shanghai

On August 27-28, 2018 within the framework of the visit to Shanghai of the Belarusian delegation of high government officials to study experience of economic reforms and development strategy of China, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, held a number of meetings with representatives of government agencies and business community of China.
A.Dapkiunas met with the representatives of the Administration of the Shanghai Free Economic Zone and ZTE Corporation, one of the world's largest manufacturers of telecommunication equipment.
At the meeting with the Deputy President of the Administration of the Shanghai Free Economic, Zone Lu Fangzhou, the sides discussed the experience of the Shanghai Free Economic Zone and the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park “Great Stone”, the ways of bringing new residents to the park and the zone, the development of free economic zones, as well as maximising the residents’ contribution to the economy of Belarus.
During the meeting with the Vice President of ZTE Corporation, Yu Hai, the parties discussed the experience of the corporation’s activity in Belarus and ZTE advances in elaboration of breakthrough telecommunications’ solutions that could be used in government, health care, transport and communications.
Background Information: ZTE is one of the three world’s largest patent holders in the field of telecommunications, allocates one tenth of its budget and 30 thousand of its staff to research and development. The corporation is a resident of the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park “Great Stone”.
The Deputy Minister underlined the importance of complementing the current cooperation between ZTE and Belarus in the field of R&D and innovation with manufacturing activity within the Chinese-Belarusian Park “Great Stone”.
In the context of the Belarusian exporters preparation for the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai in November 2018, A.Dapkiunas held a meeting with the Vice Director-General of China International Import Expo Bureau and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Zhong Xiaomin.
The interlocutors discussed the progress in preparing for the main exhibition event of the year in China. The Deputy Minister noted that in Belarus special attention is paid to assuring the high quality and attractiveness of the national pavilion at Shanghai Import Expo. The Shanghai Import Expo is seen as an exceptional opportunity for a significant increase in export of Belarusian goods and services to the Chinese market.
The Belarusian diplomat spoke of the recent intensification of the comprehensive cooperation between the Belarusian capital and Shanghai, preparation for the visit of the mayor of the capital of Belarus to the Chinese metropolis and the signing of an agreement on the establishment of twin city relations between Minsk and Shanghai.
