Joint Meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia

On November 22, 2016 Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus hosted Joint Meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and Collegium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation under the auspices of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, Vladimir Makei and Sergey Lavrov.



Shortly before the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, V.Makei, held a separate meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, during which the parties in a traditional atmosphere of confidence exchanged opinions on the current issues of Belarusian-Russian cooperation, including the collaboration in international organizations and the integration processes.

The sides discussed the facilitation of joint events dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be celebrated in 2017.



During the meeting of the Collegiums, the participants highly estimated the current state of Belarusian-Russian cooperation in various fields.

The sides exchanged opinions and coordinated approaches to the implementation of a number of issues of the Programme of Concerted Actions in Foreign Policy for 2016-2017, confirmed mutual commitment to a closer cooperation aimed at strengthening of the two countries' positions on the international arena in the interest of deepening the integration processes within the Union State and other integration formats.

The participants discussed a wide range of issues, including the cooperation between Belarus and Russia within the UN system, the collaboration with the European Union and the Council of Europe, the interconnection of integration processes, as well as the counteraction to the attempts to falsify history and revise the results of the Second World War.

The sides discussed a number of aspects of the Belarusian-Russian cooperation within international organizations. In particular, the participants considered concrete steps to strengthen cooperation within the IAEA, to promote collaboration on Chernobyl issues, Sustainable Development and Human Rights.

The parties outlined joint guidelines for further development of Eurasian integration. In this context, the participants considered ways to develop Eurasian and European integration processes, the promotion of interconnection between the EAEU and the Chinese Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative, as well as the development of constructive interaction between the Eurasian Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The sides coordinated their approaches to the development of cooperation between the two countries in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization due to the fact that Belarus recently gained the observer status in this Organization.

The sides agreed to intensify joint efforts to counter attempts to falsify history and revise the results of the Second World War, including in the framework of international organizations.



In order to continue the implementation of the Programme of Concerted Actions in Foreign Policy for 2016-2017, the Foreign Ministers signed a Plan of Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Russia for the next year.
