On December 10, 2018 in the National Library of Belarus, on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Human Rights Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the UN Office in Minsk presented a special edition of the Declaration in the Belarusian language.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, noted that the adoption of the declaration was a conscious and bold step of the Member States of the United Nations, one of which was Belarus, on the approval of humane principles for further development of humanity. It was the declaration that laid the foundation for international standards in the field of human rights and gave impetus to their implementation in international and national legislation. According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, today human rights issues should be considered along with issues of security and sustainable development, and none of them can be achieved without ensuring the other two.

A.Dapkiunas emphasized the deep symbolism of the dissemination of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in native language, since the awareness of a person of his inalienable rights and sincere honouring of native language are in harmony with each other — both come from the heart. The Deputy Minister expressed the opinion that every state that understands this is capable, both through ensuring the effective protection and promotion of the rights of its citizens and through interested support of the native language, engaging an inexhaustible source of public support for the state’s efforts on the thorny path of achieving sustainable development of society, peace and security.

Deputies of the Belarusian parliament, representatives of state bodies, international organizations and the diplomatic corps, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations took part in the celebration of the International Human Rights Day.
