Head of the Department of Information — Press Secretary D.Mironchik answers the question of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency

13 June 2016

13-06-2016

“BelTA”: How would you comment on the extension year of the executive order of President George W. Bush that the United States entered the “state of emergency” in relation to Belarus?

D.Mironchik: It is obvious that the sanctions decisions taken in 2006 by the Administration of George W. Bush and extended for the next year, are based on the initially false assumption that Belarus can be a source of threat to US security.

In fact, over the past few years, our country has made a real and widely recognized contribution to regional and international security.

Decision, made on June, 10, duplicates the previous similar acts and does not take into account the changes taking place in the Belarusian-American relations.

We are intended to continue the dialogue started with the American partners with a view to normalization of relations and complete abolition of the President’ Bush executive order number 13405 of June 16, 2006.

We hope that the anniversary tenth year of the sanctions will be the last.
