Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus O.Kravchenko visits Italy

On May 9-11, 2018 the Belarusian delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, paid a visit to the Italian Republic.

The delegation participated in the international conference ”The Reverse Flow of Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs): Challenges for the OSCE Area and Beyond“. The representative expert forum promoted by the current Italy's Chairmanship of the OSCE was focused on questions of returning of foreign terrorist fighters in countries of origin or their relocation within the OSCE region, strengthening border security and information sharing, rehabilitation and reintegration of former FTFs into civil society, countering radicalization and extremism ideology.

The Belarusian delegation consisted of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Committee for State Security and the Embassy of Belarus in Italy. The Head of the delegation and the experts delivered speeches at the opening and the plenary session of the conference, as well as at thematic sections, including the special event ”Countering terrorist ideology in the context of threats posed by FTFs“ organized by the Russian Federation.

On the margins of the conference, the Deputy Foreign Minister held meetings and exchanged views with a number of Heads of national delegations, as well as with the Director of the Office of the OSCE Secretary General, Paul Bekkers.

During the visit, O.Kravchenko also held meetings with the President of the Italian Export Credit Agency SACE, Beniamino Quintieri, the President of the Italian Society for International Organizations and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Franco Frattini, the Fraction Leader of Lega party in the Italian Senate, Gian Marco Centinaio, the Member of the Italian Parliament (Movimento 5 Stelle party) and the Deputy President of the Interparliamentary Group Italy-Belarus of the previous convocation, Vito Rosario Petrocelli.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus O.Kravchenko meets the Deputy President of the Interparliamentary Group Italy-Belarus of the previous convocation V.R. Petrocelli

On the same day, Rome hosted consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Italy at the level of Heads of territorial departments (Andrei Bushilo and Guido De Sanctis).

During the meetings, the sides discussed issues of political dialogue, development of bilateral economic relations and investment cooperation, prospects for expanding inter-parliamentary contacts, including the coordination of joint plans for the future.
