Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei meets the Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus

On September 10, 2019 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Belarus, Dirk Schuebel.   

V.Makei accepted copies of the Ambassador’s Credentials and discussed with him the current state and prospects for development of Belarus-EU relations. Given the long-standing involvement of D.Schuebel in Belarus – EU relations, the sides focused on key issues on the common agenda, including development of a bilateral legal framework, preparations for the signature of the Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements, planning of EU financial assistance programmes, organization of Eastern Partnership events in Belarus.            

The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted important achievements in the dialogue between Minsk and Brussels. V.Makei named the appointment of one of the most experienced curators of Belarus – EU relations to the position of the Head of the EU Delegation as a timely move to consolidate and build up the existing positive trend. The Minister expressed hope that the arrival of a new Head of Delegation to Minsk and formation of a new European Commission would facilitate progress in concluding a new Belarus – EU contractual framework.     

V.Makei wished D.Schuebel success in his new work for the benefit of Belarus – EU relations.
