Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva participates in the 57th Series of Meetings of the WIPO Assemblies are held in Geneva

On October 2-11, 2017 the 57th Series of the WIPO Assemblies are held in Geneva. The key event within the Series is the session of the WIPO General Assembly.

The Republic of Belarus is represented at the event by the delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich.

The delegation includes also the Director-General of the National Center of Intellectual Property Piotr Brovkin, representatives of the State Committee on Science and Technology and the Permanent Mission of Belarus in Geneva.

On September 2, 2017 the Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Y.Ambrazevich delivered a statement at the plenary session of the WIPO General Assembly. He positively assessed the cooperation of Belarus with WIPO and its working bodies. The statement reflected the constructive position of Belarus in relation to the WIPO normative agenda, in particular, to the development of international treaties in the fields of design law and protection of broadcasting organizations.

The head of the Belarusian delegation informed on the efforts undertaken over the last year in order to improve the national intellectual property system: in particular, amendments to the national legislation in the field of intellectual property, reduction of the rates of patent fees for the examination and the extension of the registration term for trademarks, the entry into force for the Republic of Belarus of the Patent Law Treaty.

Y.Ambrazevich also reported on the work carried out by Belarus with the support of the WIPO Secretariat on the establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centers, the implementation of the Industrial Property Automation System, the organization of workshops on various aspects of intellectual property.
