First meeting of Belarus-Bangladesh Joint Commission

On April 23, 2019 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus hosted the first session of Belarus-Bangladesh Joint Commission chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Andrei Dapkiunas, and the Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Munshi Tipu.

During the meeting, representative government delegations reviewed the current state of bilateral trade and discussed the priority steps for its’ growth. The sides underlined a complementary nature of economies of the two countries, which creates opportunities for increased mutual supplies of industrial goods and agricultural products, including foodstuffs.

The bilateral Commission identified the most promising joint projects in the field of mechanical engineering and discussed the possibility of attracting Belarusian specialists and technology to build infrastructure in Bangladesh.
Belarusian delegates, in particular, confirmed their readiness to substantially increase exports of road construction machinery, agricultural equipment and trucks to Bangladesh with an appropriate post-sales maintenance service.

Bangladeshi partners clearly signaled their need to obtain Belarusian technologies and training in matters of agricultural mechanization, including in the fields of potato growing and processing of agricultural products, in the areas of medical education and research, nuclear safety and high-tech manufacturing.

The Commission drew the attention to the need for a significant intensification of contacts between the business circles of the two countries, namely through exhibition activity, and creation of most favorable environment thereto, including visa facilitation.

The program of the Bangladeshi delegation in Belarus also includes meetings in the Council of Ministers, Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, visit to the National Academy of Sciences, a number of high-tech enterprises and the “Khatyn” Memorial.
