Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei meets the UN Secretary-General A.Guterres and participates in other events

On October 4, 2018 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, met with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the repositioning of the development system, reforms of peace and security pillar in the context of the implementation of Agenda — 2030.

Belarusian Side expressed its’ support of the UN Secretary-General's initiatives “Youth 2030” and “Generation Unlimited" designed to help young people in providing quality education and decent job. From his part, A.Guterres highly appreciated the active work of Belarus in the Organisation, in particular, in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and maintaining regional security.

The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry conveyed to the UN Secretary-General an invitation from the President of the Republic of Belarus, A.Lukashenko, to pay an official visit to Belarus, and also to take part in the opening ceremony of the II European Games, which will be held in June 2019.

As part of his stay in the United States, V.Makei met with the President of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for cooperation and participation in joint events and projects, state and prospects for development of Belarus-U.S. relations.

V.Makei invited the World Jewish Congress to take part in the Days of Remembrance dedicated to the 75th anniversary of extermination of the Minsk ghetto to be held in Minsk on October 22-23, 2018.

The Head of the Foreign Ministry also met with the Jewish Museum director, Claudia Gould.

The meeting was focused on issues of cooperation between the Belarusian museums and the Jewish Museum in New York. The interlocutors agreed on the need to strengthen cultural interaction between the countries.

As part of his visit to the Museum, the Belarusian diplomat got acquainted with the exhibition of works by avant-garde artists of the Vitebsk school “Chagall, Lissitzky, Malevich” which includes a number of works provided by the museums of Minsk and Vitebsk.
