On April 2, 2019 the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution «International Delegate’s Day» initiated by Belarus, according to which April 25 is proclaimed the so-named day in the UN.

On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the San Francisco Conference on an international organisation, the resolution is primarily aimed at recognising the contribution of delegates working within the UN in achieving the goals of the Organisation, and also emphasises the role of the founding states of the UN, including Belarus. In the context of the celebration of the 2019 centennial of the diplomatic service of the Republic of Belarus, the resolution also welcomes national initiatives to adopt days of diplomats or diplomatic services. The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 20 states.

Presenting the resolution to the General Assembly, A.Dapkiunas noted, first of all, its’ human rights orientation, timeliness of adoption and uniting character.

The promotion and adoption of such non-confrontational resolutions has already become a “calling card” of Belarus and proves our commitment to a constructive agenda in international relations.
