Opening of the photo exhibition on family in the UN Office in Geneva

On February 23, 2017 at the United Nations Office in Geneva upon the initiative of Belarus the opening ceremony of the exhibition “The Family is at the heart of the United Nations Project” was held. The event was organized by the diplomatic missions to the UN Office in Geneva of the State Members of the Group of Friends of the Family and dedicated to the promotion of the family as a natural unit of society.

In his statement at the opening ceremony, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, highlighted an important positive contribution of the family to sustainable development and its’ invaluable role in ensuring the rights of its’ members in supporting persons with disabilities. Heads of the diplomatic missions of the Russian Federation and Egypt spoke on behalf of the Group of Friends of the Family as well.

The participants of the event reiterated the commitment of the Group of Friends of the Family to continue working actively on the protection and support of the family, including in the framework of the Human Rights Council, called for consolidation of efforts by states and non-governmental sector for keeping family issues on the international agenda.

Representatives of the diplomatic mission and civil society organizations, as well as participants of the Human Rights Council Seminar “The protection of the family: role of the family in supporting the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities” held on February 23, 2017 attended the ceremony. The photo exhibition will be on display till March 3, 2017.
