Group of Friends meets to mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons

On July 29, 2016 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York the Group of Friends united against Human Trafficking convened a solemn meeting to mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

Background Information: World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed on July 30 beginning in 2014. This day was included in the international calendar on the initiative of Belarus to implement UN General Assembly resolution 68/192 and pursuant to the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, adopted by consensus at the 64th session of the UN General Assembly in 2010.

During the meeting, Member States of the Group of Friends exchanged their national experiences in the field of combating human trafficking and discussed further concerted actions in the United Nations to strengthen partnership in order to eradicate this crime, including in the context of the forthcoming UN General Assembly High-level meeting to review the UN Global Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which is scheduled for 2017.
