Belarusian Resolution is adopted by the UN GA First Committee

At the initiative of the Republic of Belarus the First Committee of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly adopted by an absolute majority (173 votes in favor, with no abstentions and three votes against) a resolution entitled “Prohibition of the development and manufacture of new types of weapons of mass destruction and new systems of such weapons: report of the Conference on Disarmament”.

Background information: The Republic of Belarus tables this resolution at the UN GA First Committee on a regular basis (every three years). The resolution is aimed at promoting the idea of preventing an arms race and improving internationally recognized procedures that allow monitoring the situation with the possible development of new types of weapons of mass destruction.

The adopted document reflects the commitment of the UN member-states states to the policy of preventing the emergence of new types of weapons of mass destruction and promotes the establishment of an appropriate response mechanism with the involvement of the UN Conference on Disarmament.

This year the Belarusian resolution has been co-sponsored by 35 countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, which reflects the comprehensive support of the Belarusian initiatives in international security, disarmament and non-proliferation.
