Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia on the Middle East and North Africa agenda

On May 24, 2016 Moscow hosted Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation on the Middle East and North Africa agenda.

The Belarusian delegation was led by the Head of Africa and Middle East Department of the MFA, Igor Leshchenya, Russian delegation was headed by the Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the MFA, Sergey Vershinin.

The parties discussed the issues regarding Islamic state, the development of the situation in Libya and other countries of the region.

During the consultation, the importance of coordinated actions by the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Russia on the Middle East issues in the international arena was highlighted.

During the event, I.Leshchenya met with the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Bogdanov.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current issues of the development of the situation in the Middle East. Particular attention was paid to the coordination of approaches to the settlement of the situation in Syria.

Within the framework of the working visit to Moscow, Head of Africa and Middle East Department of the MFA of Belarus, Igor Leshchenya, held several bilateral meetings with the ambassadors of Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Jordan, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda accredited in the Republic of Belarus non-resident.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the intensification of bilateral political dialogue, expansion of economic and trade cooperation, the development of the legal framework of bilateral relations, implementation of joint projects and regional co-operation.
