Permanent Representative of Belarus Y.Ambrazevich elected Vice President of the 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the CCW

On November 17, 2017 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Yury Ambrazevich, was elected the Vice President of the 12th Conference of the States Parties to Protocol V to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects (CCW) by the Eastern-European group of states.

Election of the representative of Belarus confirms the authority of our country as an active and consistent supporter of building a more secure world.

Background Information: Protocol V to the CCW, adopted on November 28, 2003, deals with post-conflict clearance of “explosive remnants of war” — unexploded and abandoned explosives. The Protocol stipulates obligations of States Parties to demine, remove and destroy “explosive remnants of war”. The Protocol also requires taking measures to protect civilians from the impact of unexploded and abandoned explosives. 93 States are Parties to the Protocol V.
