Group of Friends of the Family launched in the UN

On  February 3, 2015 Belarus, Egypt and Qatar organized the launch of  the Group of Friends of the Family in the UN Headquarters in New York. 

The event was attended by representatives of 25 countries from different regions of the world, which proved themselves as supporters of the traditional family and family values.

During the event there was an exchange of views on the purpose of the activity of the Group. 

During the discussion the Heads of the Permanent Missions of Belarus, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Holy See, Libya, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, Tajikistan stressed that the traditional family as the foundation of human civilization should be in the focus of attention of governments, the United Nations and its agencies, civil society.

Participants of the event supported the proposal of Belarus to inform the UN leadership – the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly   on the establishment of the Group of Friends of the Family in the United Nations by sending them a joint letter on the launch of the Group and requesting to circulate it as an official document of the General Assembly. 

The participants of the meeting also decided to elaborate in the nearest future a plan of activity of the Group in 2015.
