On May 24, 2018 Minsk hosted second session of the bilateral consultative forum of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Indonesia.

Background Information: The first Belarusian-Indonesian political consultations took place in Jakarta in October 2016.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Dapkiunas, the Indonesian delegation was led by the Director General for American and European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Deputy Minister), Muhammad Anshor.

On the eve of the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Indonesia (June 18), A.Dapkiunas and M.Anshor agreed on the importance of drawing public attention of both countries to the achievements of the last quarter of the century and seeing the prospects for bilateral interstate cooperation.

During the meeting, the delegations discussed topical issues on the bilateral, regional and international agenda, in particular, the development of interstate contacts at the highest and high levels, the desirability of Indonesia’s permanent diplomatic presence in Belarus, the possibility of initiating joint economic, educational and other projects, including in the format of cooperation through the regional interstate formations: the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the EAEU, the CIS, and others.

The interlocutors testified to the high efficiency and mutually interested nature of bilateral interaction in international organizations, primarily in the UN, the priority for both countries of the problem of supporting the traditional family and combating trafficking in persons.

The heads of delegations noted common approaches to the most fundamental issues of the international agenda, agreed to expand the practice of consultations, including in the field of foreign policy analysis and planning.

Special attention during the consultations was paid to bilateral cooperation in trade and economic, scientific, technical, educational and other fields, as well as expediency of work on the drafts of bilateral agreements and the ratification of previously signed documents. The interlocutors discussed the prospects for the preparation of an agreement on a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and Indonesia and agreed on the importance of this step for the development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia.

Following the consultations, the heads of delegations signed a protocol, which provides for concrete steps and activities aimed at enhancing the comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
