On Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Alena Kupchyna visiting Brussels

On 9 March 2015, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Alena Kupchyna led a Belarusian delegation to Brussels to participate in the fifth round of consultations on modernization issues between Belarus and the European Union.

The EU delegation was headed by Gunnar Wiegand, Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and OSCE of the European External Action Service.
During the consultations, which are aimed at determining the best future form of cooperation between the Government of Belarus and the EU, the parties discussed i.a. human rights issues.

While in Brussels, Alena Kupchyna had a number of meetings with senior officials of the European Commission and the European External Action Service. The meetings with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, and Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary General of the EEAS focused on further development of Belarus-EU relations.
