Delegation of Belarus participates at the work of the preparatory committee for the Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons

On August 8-12, 2016 the Delegation of the Republic of Belarus consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Scientific and Practical Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology participates at the work of the preparatory committee for the Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons (BWC) in Geneva.

In his statement, the Deputy Head of the International Security and Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Nikolay Ovsyanko, noted that Belarus consistently adheres to the need to strengthen the regime of non-proliferation and disarmament, including in the field of biology.

N.Ovsyanko stressed that Belarus has the potential and developments in the field of bio-safety and is ready to join the international community's efforts to strengthen confidence-building measures between the countries in the course of implementation of the BWC.

Participants were also briefed on the outcomes of the partnership review of the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, which was held in Minsk in August 2016.
