13 March 2003

Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs Alexander Sychev met with IAEA deputy director general, director of the technical cooperation department Anna Maria Cetto at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.

While talking to the IAEA deputy director general Mr. Sychev stressed that Belarus attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Agency. Effectiveness of such cooperation can be proved by a considerable number of successfully completed projects in the framework of the Program for Technical Cooperation.

Total budget of the National Program for Technical Cooperation in 2003-2004 is about $1 million 400 thousand, a bulk of it taken by Chernobyl programs.

In its endeavour to contribute to implementation of the projects within the Program, Belarus is regularly holding various international training sessions and seminars.

Mr. Sychev informed the Agency deputy director general that the Belarusian government has approved the text of the Country Program Framework elaborated in cooperation with the IAEA – the medium-term strategy of technical cooperation between Belarus and the Agency.
