Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Makei participates in Minsk Forum XV

On November 17, 2017 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, participated in Minsk Forum XV dedicated to the topic “Belarus, Germany and the EU: Eastern Partnership, Civil Society and Economic Relations”. The event was also attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, who is in Belarus on a working visit.

Background Information: The Minsk Forum is an annual international conference focused on topical issues of Belarusian-German and Belarusian-European cooperation. The conference is traditionally attended by politicians, diplomats and experts from Belarus, Germany and other EU member states. 2017 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Minsk Forum.

In his statement, V.Makei outlined the promising directions for the development of the Belarusian-German cooperation in various fields. The Minister confirmed that Germany is one of the key partners of Belarus on the Western vector and in the European Union. The Foreign Minister of our country stressed the important role of Germany in the normalization of relations between Belarus and the EU, noting that the building up of pragmatic cooperation with the European Union is a necessary prerequisite for strengthening the Belarusian statehood.

V.Makei also expressed his gratitude and congratulated with the 20th Anniversary of the Minsk Forum his initiator and permanent chairman — Rainer Lindner.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister underlined that the Minsk Forum is a unique platform for an open dialogue and for 20 years it that has been gathering politicians, diplomats, experts from Belarus, Germany and the European Union to discuss the most topical issues of Belarusian-German and Belarusian-European cooperation.
