Belarus presents draft UN GA Resolution on the prohibition of the production of new types of weapons of mass destruction

On August 29, 2017 the Deputy Head of International Security and Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Nikolai Ovsyanko, presented a draft resolution “Prohibition of the development and manufacture of new types of weapons of mass destruction and new systems of such weapons: report of the Conference on Disarmament” to the Members and Observers to the Conference.
The resolution is aimed at the promotion the ideas of preventing an arms race and creating a disarmament mechanism that can be launched in case of a critical situation.
Belarus is a traditional author of this resolution and presents it to the United Nations General Assembly First Committee on a triennial basis. The adoption of the next Belarusian resolution will take place during the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
