Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus A.Dapkiunas meets the Ambassador of the Philippines

On November 26, 2018 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus (concurrently) Carlos D. Sorreta who is in Minsk on a working visit.

During the meeting the sides discussed the state and prospects for development of bilateral Belarusian-Philippine relations, and exchanged views on topical issues of the international agenda.

Belarusian and Philippine diplomats confirmed their mutual interest in the organization in 2019 of the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus to the Philippines. During the meeting the sides noted  importance of the early conclusion of work on a number of bilateral documents, including basic economic agreements and the agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports. A.Dapkiunas and С.Sorreta agreed on signing a memorandum on bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and on the creation of a mechanism for regular political dialogue between Belarus and the Philippines. The sides also noted the importance of inter-parliamentary Belarusian-Philippine bilateral cooperation, as well as within the framework of global and regional inter-parliamentary structures.

On the eve of the visit to Belarus of the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Philippines in December 2018, the Deputy Minister and the Ambassador discussed possibility of more active cooperation between the two countries in the field of agricultural production, including the possible use of leading Belarusian agricultural technologies by the Philippines. The Philippine diplomat expressed interest in the organization of fresh fish and fruits supply to Belarus from the Philippines.

Particular attention during the conversation was paid to the possibility of enhancement of active cooperation between Belarus and the Philippines in the international organizations, primarily at the framework of the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, and to the strengthening of the tradition of mutual support.
