Belarusian delegation participates in the session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs

On November 30, 2016 in Vienna the delegation of the Republic of Belarus, headed by the Head of Department of Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Vadim Pisarevich, took part in the Special Segment of the reconvened session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).

The participants discussed the results of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on World Drug Problem.

The United Nations General Assembly Special Session on World Drug Program (UNGASS) was held in April 2016 in New York. The Belarusian delegation to UNGASS was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vladimir Makei. The Special Session adopted final document containing action-oriented recommendations for tackling the world drug problem.

In his statement the head of Belarusian delegation conveyed the vision of Belarus on implementation of UNGASS recommendations. He stressed the central role of the CND in developing balanced and comprehensive international policies for tackling the world drug problem. He also pointed out the need for involvement of other stakeholders, such as the World Health Organization, Human Rights Council, UN-Women, which may also bring some added value to the process.

The representative of Belarus announced that our country is planning to present at forthcoming 60-th session of CND a draft resolution on enhancing the role of families, schools and communities in preventing drug use among children and adolescence.
