Ambassador of Belarus D.Mironchik meets the Swedish Foreign Minister

On September 13, 2018, in accordance with the Swedish protocol practice, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Mironchik met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, Margot Wallström.

At the outset of the meeting the Swedish Foreign Minister greeted the restoration of the mutual diplomatic presence. She expressed her hope that with the resumption of the work of the embassies, the Belarusian-Swedish relations will gain a new momentum.

The Minister and the Ambassador discussed the bilateral trade, which after a six-year decline demonstrated a record, almost 30-percent growth in the first half of 2018. The Swedish Foreign Minister was informed about the efforts of the Belarusian side to strengthen trade and economic cooperation, in particular about the presentation of investment opportunities offered by Belarus, which the Embassy is preparing together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

Margot Wallström expressed gratitude to the Belarusian side for offering help in combating wildfires that caused considerable damage to Sweden this summer. In this connection, the Minister was informed about Belarus' readiness to assist the Swedish side in replanting the burnt forests and to supply the necessary fir and pine tree seeds.

The Head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision of Belarus to extend visa-free entry into the country for up to 30 days.

The Minister and the Ambassador also discussed matters of interest to the Swedish side related to the human rights sphere. Margot Wallström was informed of Belarus' intention to develop substantive cooperation with Swedish partners, including in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
