Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Rybakov participates in the high-level General Assembly meeting

On January 24, 2017 at the UN Headquarters in New York, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, participated in the UN General Assembly high-level meeting “Building Sustainable Peace for All: Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustaining Peace”, organized at the initiative of the UN General Assembly President.

In his statement, V.Rybakov presented a number of proposals on topical areas of UN activities taking into account the need to strengthen the relations of various processes in the Organization.

Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the decisive measures are needed in the UN in order to overcome the global alienation in the political and security spheres. With this understanding the President of Belarus proposed the idea of a new multilateral process which would suggest an open dialogue on the causes of the international relations crisis and possibilities to overcome it. Belarus is ready to contribute to this process by hosting various meetings and consultations.

In addition, the Belarusian representative suggested that the United Nations should contribute to harmonizing regional integration efforts and facilitate the creation of conditions for cooperation of not only individual countries but also of integration entities. As Chair of the Central European Initiative in 2017 Belarus intends to pay close attention to this topic.
The Deputy Minister also presented a number of practical ideas and proposals in the areas of UN activities devoted to multilateral disarmament, integrated implementation of sustainable development goals, improvement of the working methods of the UN system.

V.Rybakov welcomed the emerging understanding of the importance of relations between peace and development. Belarus together with partners contributed to such comprehensive understanding by organizing the day before an informal meeting “Responsible governance on disarmament and non-proliferation for progress and sustainable development”.
