Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus O.Kravchenko visits Canada

On April 8-12, 2019 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, visited Canada.

During the visit, another round of bilateral ministerial consultations was held.

The Canadian delegation was led by the Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mark Gwozdecky.

The sides discussed the current and future development of Belarus-Canada relations, interaction of the two countries in international organizations, the situation in the Eastern European region, as well as the relations of Belarus with its key partners.

O.Kravchenko also met with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Lieutenant-General (retired), Andrew Leslie.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister held a meeting with the representatives of the Privy Council.

At the meetings with the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, Michael Levitt, and the Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Raynell Andreychuk, the sides discussed the issues of global security, the situation in the European region, Belarus-Canada relations.

At the international conference on integration processes in the Eurasian region “In Search of the New Eurasian Pragmatism”, organized by the Carleton University and the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA), Oleg Kravchenko outlined Belarus’ initiatives for cooperation and further pairing between regional integrations — the EAEU and the EU, highlighted the participation of the Republic of Belarus in the EAEU with a focus on the benefits and advantages which Canada and other Western countries could get from cooperating with Belarus.

The prospects of Belarus-Canada cooperation in trade and investment were discussed during the negotiations between O.Kravchenko and CERBA Chairman Gilles Breton and the leadership of the Canadian companies interested in doing business with the Republic of Belarus.

During the meeting of O.Kravchenko with the representatives of the Canadian War Museum (CWM), the sides considered the prospects for interaction between the CWM and the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

O.Kravchenko also met with the Director of the Centre for Governance and Public Management of Carleton University, Piotr Dutkiewicz.
