First meeting of the Joint Standing Commission for Cooperation between Belarus and Zimbabwe

On February 22, 2024 the first meeting of the Joint Standing Commission on Cooperation between Belarus and Zimbabwe was held in Harare under the chairmanship of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe Frederick Shava.


During the Commission, the parties considered practical steps to develop cooperation between Belarus and Zimbabwe in the political, economic, social and security spheres.

The participants of the meeting discussed and identified promising areas and cooperation projects for the implementation in the medium and long term perspective in order to strengthen the economic and industrial potential of the countries and increase bilateral trade turnover.

The sides confirmed the intention to continue the third phase of the complex project of mechanization of Zimbabwe's agriculture and reached agreements on the supply of passenger and special machinery.

The parties discussed the issues of interaction in the social and humanitarian sphere with a focus on deepening cooperation in healthcare, education, science and technology.

The parties stressed their readiness to facilitate the spread of the Belarusian-Zimbabwean experience of cooperation in food security, industrialization of the economy, education and healthcare to other countries of South Africa.

Special attention was paid to the formation of a package of bilateral documents for the approvement and signing during the state visit of President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, E.D.Mnangagwa, to the Republic of Belarus scheduled for 2024.

The parties agreed to continue cooperation in multilateral platforms to build just multipolar world and join efforts with like-minded countries to minimise the impact of illegal unilateral sanctions on the development and welfare of the peoples of the two countries.

Following the results of the meeting, the Joint Communique and Minutes were signed, as well as the final documents of the work of the sectoral groups in the field of industry and agriculture.

The parties agreed to hold a comprehensive review of the implementation of the agreements and joint projects in the middle of 2024 in Minsk.
