On May 5, 2016 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Valentin Rybakov, participated in the International Conference “Understanding Belarus Security”, held under the auspices of the expert platform “Minsk Dialogue”.

In his opening speech, V.Rybakov drew the attention of the audience to the existing international security problems, an increase in the amount of regional conflicts, universal challenges and threats and based on the specific examples demonstrated, that the Republic of Belarus makes a strong contribution to the process of strengthening of regional and international security and is strongly committed to the principle of the promotion of its own security without compromising the security of other countries.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus noted that today a process of re-thinking of a place and role of our country both in reginal and international context is taking place.

Geopolitical position of Belarus holds both defined risks and substantial possibilities. On the one hand, Belarus is a member of the Union State, Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization. On the other hand, Belarus is interested in stable, positive and dynamic relations with the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Alliance.

Based on a balanced perspective towards security issues, Belarus presents its approaches to the integration processes, constantly promoting the idea of “integration of integrations” as a process of formation of mutually beneficial cooperation and creation of additional links not only between East and West, Eurasian and European Unions, but also between North and South. “Competition between integration associations is not what the world needs today. Partnership of integration associations is necessary nowadays” – stated V.Rybakov.

President of the Jamestown Foundation, Glen Howard, Programming Director for Belarus of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Wolfgang Sender, and the Head of the export platform “Minsk Dialogue”, Evgeny Preigerman, also addressed the audience with their welcoming speeches.

A number of reputable Belarusian and foreign political experts and representatives of diplomatic corps also took part in the conference.
