Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.Rybakov participates in the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency

On June 12, 2017 the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began its’ work in Vienna at the IAEA’ headquarters in Vienna.
The delegation of the Republic of Belarus headed by the Governor from Belarus, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Valentin Rybakov, participates in the session.
During the session, the Board will review the draft IAEA annual reports – the annual report for 2016, the report on technical cooperation, the report on the implementation of safeguards; draft program and budget of the Agency for 2018-2019; preparation for the upcoming 61st session of the IAEA General Conference, as well as a number of other issues related to the operational activities of the Agency.
V.Rybakov participated in the discussion on the draft IAEA annual report for 2016. In his statement, Deputy Foreign Minister noted the expanding range of the Agency's activities to assist member states in achieving the goals of sustainable development, welcomed the continued priority given by the IAEA to the issues of the safe development of nuclear power. V.Rybakov informed the participants of the discussion about holding assessment missions of the IAEA in Belarus in 2016-2017.
The representative of Belarus also spoke on behalf of the States-Parties to the Treaty on the Establishment of the Belarus-Russia Union State on strengthening the technical cooperation of the IAEA.
V.Rybakov noted the Agency's success in consolidating knowledge and expertise in order to create technical and human resources in the IAEA Member States and develop a reliable infrastructure for the development and development of nuclear technologies, including nuclear power. Deputy Foreign Minister dwelt on specific examples of the successful implementation of the IAEA's Technical Cooperation Program, including projects to develop national nuclear power infrastructures.
